In 1986 Cindy Whitehead wrote her own legend by handing three-time NORBA national champion Jacquie Phelan her first defeat in the 50-mile Plumline Challenge near Bishop, California. Adding to her remarkable ride was the fact that she made it after the saddle fell off her bike in the first miles. The photo shows Jacquie Phelan leading Cindy Whitehead early in the race.
